Xbox controller won't work again after it's disconnected

I'm using the wireless xbox 360 controller. If it's disconnected while the game is running (say I pull the batteries out), then the game is not able to continue with the controller after I reconnect it. I have to restart the game Sad

Unfortunately, this is by design. I don't think the Unity Game Engine allows you to reconnect a controller after starting up the game.
