Can there be freecam mode? I don't enjoy a game when a player moves the camera and it moves the characters in the game.

Thanks EliParker, you are actually the first post on this forum Smile

Yes, I can understand what you mean. The reason why our game has a camera that stay on the back of the character is because the game is mostly played on PC and so with a mouse and keyboard. Since using the digital WASD keys to move a character with a free roaming camera didn't feel comfortable, we decided to go for a camera that stays in the back of the character.

However, we might consider having a free camera if we manage to port the game on a console where the character movement can always be mapped to an analog joystick.

Thank you again for the suggestion and your support!

I'm one of those rare PC gamers that uses the control first and foremost. Wouldn't having the free camera already mode in the game already done easier in the long run?

I'm a pc game, and I'd actually prefer a free camera too. Though the strafe is essential on the robot. Maybe you could borrow a Dark Souls style control, where you have full 360 degree control separate to the camera, with a button to lock the camera behind you for combat.

I particularly don't like the camera being stuck behind the girl, and the weird way that pressing sprint changes you from strafing to actually turning when you are running, I find it kinda awkward if you switch between run and walk frequently.

Or maybe you could just give the two characters their own camera setting, and have the girl free, and the robot locked. Which is kinda fitting of their gameplay and roles too in a way. The freedom of the camera for the girls more exploratory nature, and the fixed rigid camera for the robots more rigid, mechanical, combative nature.

I would really like to see them work in free cam into this game. I'm looking forward to the end result, but why are they so quiet on these boards. Maybe now that they made a kickstarter page maybe there will be more activity.

I would like to see the characters' faces too, but at the same time I can imagine how much more difficult it would be to control them if the camera weren't directly connected to their movement; it's a bit more intuitive that way. Maybe you could make it so the camera can move around the characters when they are standing still, but when you start using the move keys the character's "front side" aligns in the same direction that the camera is pointing. Just an idea.

I play most of my games with keyboard and mouse and I want a free moving camera independent of the character's movement as well. It just feels better to me. You can, however, make this work for both characters. In any instance where the character is going into a "first person" view (like aiming the bow and arrow for instance) you can then switch back the camera to how it works now with the mouse aiming and controlling where the character moves. For the sword combat with the robot, you could have a free camera to run around and to keep strafing, you could add the wonderful mechanic generally known as Z-Targeting. When something is targeted, the camera will always keep that thing centered and you strafe around it instead of free running.

Yes, on the bow and arrow shooting, I kind of wanted to be able to walk around, like a real archer would be able to. But on the other hand, that makes the game a bit more challenging when using the bow makes you a sitting duck; you have to decide on the spur of every moment which weapon is most appropriate for that situation, and that's kind of fun.

As for the Z-targeting, personally in the games I've played with it, I found it added just a bit too much complexity to the controls, and I just ran right up to the enemies and started slashing. I think that if the controls get too complex, people may be less enthusiastic about playing. But that's just my opinion.
